Barney was my oldest cat and my biggest talker. He meowed for his due and wouldn’t quit—a perfect illustration of persistence in prayer. A reddish-tan and cream Pomeranian fox, Becca is so full of life I call her my "Energizer Bunny dog." Biscuit mixes cover-dog looks with a Miss Congeniality temperament. Merlin had the loudest purr in the house and knew no strangers. He also sported a strong macho streak. But even though “Big Red” could play rough, he meant no harm, because his heart was huge.

Misty was small in stature but had a huge spirit. She demanded respect from the larger cats and much larger humans in her life, even in her twilight years.

Part sheltie, part "potluck," and all personality, Morgan was a shy guy with a heart of gold. Muffin loves her “Mommy time” in the morning. She looks and acts like a princess, but is also spunky and playful, diving after the small round shadow of my watch face as if it were a mouse.

Sweet-natured and a little goofy, Gracie had an uncanny ability to read my mind.

Huxley was a rescue dog of uncertain breeding whose eyes convinced my heart to take him home. He made a great security system with his repertoire of barks and was a great companion to us all. Full of energy and affection, Jack loved going out in the fields and swimming in irrigation ditches. Kitty mothered not just her own kittens, but others too. She also tried to protect her people by following us all over our farm up to her own personal boundary lines. Mandy weighed only one pound when she came to us, but she quickly won our hearts.
Small in stature but large in faithfulness, Max often behaved like a tiny, proud lion. Full of love and spunk, McPherson served as a working farm dog and canine nanny to our three children. Even in old age, he never relinquished his role as our family’s friend and protector. Milkshake was our granddaughter’s special pal and basked in her love. Braver than his peers, he made friends with the dog who would have chased him from our yard. A “bad hair day” dog with a crazy, goofy attitude, Squitchey is always quick to make us smile.

Stuart is strong and active. He loves being with us—wiggling, cuddling, and licking our ears. Wally was born on our roof and fell into a hole between the walls. Her mama gave her up for dead, but our family did not. We rescued her and this tiny little spitfire touched our hearts and lives.

In one split second, Midnight can go from purring in ecstasy to pouncing on the hand that motivated the purrs. When she patrols her domain, she reminds us of a panther on the prowl. Mooch plays with toys more than any other cat we’ve had and is quite a catcher. He loves hanging out with us and hates being put to bed at night. Pumpkin loved other cats and people and always greeted visitors to our home. Better than any welcome mat, our “welcome cat” won the hearts of one and all. Tiger’s exceptionally sweet disposition made her my husband’s all-time favorite kitty. She loved her family but feared all others—serving as a living illustration of the term “scaredy-cat.”
